The nature of teaching jobs in SEN schools can vary widely depending on the education phase, the Key Stage, subject and SEN type. Teachers may focus on teaching pupils with learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health challenges, sensory/physical impairments or communication and interaction challenges such as Autistic spectrum disorder. With a few years experience a teacher job can grow into a SENCO role. The Coordinators and Year & Department Heads that are able to show improvement in the standards of teaching and learning often progress into senior leadership roles, usually starting as Assistant Head Teachers and eventually moving into Deputy Head and Head Teacher roles.
