A special type of person:
For this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you must be a compassionate graduate who has achieved well in your degree, having earned at least a second-class degree and ideally experience supporting children with SEN. The ideal candidate will have a calm and passionate nature needed to work with SEN. It is essential that you will be able to empathise with the children you support and act as a role model. You will build positive working relationships with fellow staff and offer ideas and support as you develop through the role.
An exceptionally rewarding role:
You will be offering academic and social support to pupils with an EHCP (Education Healthcare Plan) and working with pupils on a 1:1 basis. Your presence in the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society is essential and, by its very nature, the role is demanding but equally rewarding. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working within a specific class based on school need and your own preferences/suitability. This school ensures all new members of staff receive extensive support from the leadership team from your first day to your last. You will have the responsibility of lending support to various classrooms in the school, learning a range of new skills from the respective class teacher in doing so. You will be developing vital teaching skills under the tutelage of an invested SENCO who plays an active role in the development of every member of their team.
