Modeshift: Supporting Sustainable Travel

In November 2014 the Minister of State for Transport, Baroness Kramer, was granted £184k from the Department of Transport to start a new scheme in schools all over England. The scheme, named Modeshift STARS (Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools), encourages schools to increase their sustainable travel through planning, mentoring, and reporting. Acting as an umbrella scheme for a wide variety of travel initiatives like For2Feet and Cyclepods, the scheme rewards schools with the National STARS School Travel Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. So far the scheme has been hugely successful, with 347 schools earning the accreditation in 2015 alone, and this October schools across the country have started competing for the STARS Schools of the Region award.
