EduStaff at: CTC Kingshurst Academy

On Monday 9th October, EduStaff Consultants Luke and Patrick went down to CTC Kinghurst Academy in Solihull for the annual Career Day.

Evaluating CVs, prepping candidates for interview and offering sound advice on careers in education are activities that our consultants perform daily, so of course Patrick and Luke were the right people to assist with the CV writing workshop and Mock Interview session!

Kicking off the morning session, Patrick gave a fantastic presentation on the basics of a CV, from content and format to the lesser-known benefits. A lively conversation ensued, where the what’s and why’s of a CV were discussed at great length.

The second part of the CV workshop saw Luke and Patrick sit down with the pupils and help them write their own CV. Through talking about their skills and unique selling points, the pupils soon understood that a CV forms part of the first impression potential employers will have, and therefore how integral it is that they are represented in the best light possible.

Luke took the lead in the afternoon while Patrick was sneakily enjoying his second school dinner in the cafeteria. After asking each pupil which career path they were hoping to venture down, Luke hosted a mock interview.

The basic questions were asked, nudging each pupil to really think about their strengths, weaknesses and how they believe they work best. Drawing from over a decade of interview experience, Luke offered solid and honest feedback to each student on techniques and how they answered questions. Luke made a special point of highlighting their appearance and body language, as these inaudible actions can be a real make or break factor for a job offer.

Before heading home, Luke and Patrick made their way over to the staff room, speaking to lots of team members about life in education and the next generation of teachers.

A massive thank you to CTC Kingshurst Academy staff and pupils for having us for a great day!

Rumour has it that Patrick managed to get a third school dinner.
