Ellie W | Teaching Assistant , Support Staff |
| Ellie studied for an academic music degree whilst also studying the piano at a conservatoire, singing in a semi-professional choir, and gaining an award for academic achievement along the way. Motivated by a passion for music, and a desire to develop new audiences for it, Ellie has continued to balance academic and administrative work with freelance musicianship, making her a diverse, flexible musician and educator: Ellie has taught piano privately for a number of years, and worked as a pianist for nursery and primary school ballet classes, where she created music on the spot for young children to dance to. It was here that she developed her unique ability to engage with very young minds through music and movement. Her interest in education was further sparked whilst she assisted the education department at the London Sinfonietta. Here, she gave hands on help with the the KX collective, an ensemble of young musicians of all abilities from the Kings Cross area, and assisted with the Blue Touch Paper project, an initative for young composers looking to collaborate with other artists. Voluntarily, she works with an east London music initiative, Say it Loud, through which she has taught violin to large groups of beginners at a school in Bethnal Green, given work shops at Toynbee Hall, and run family music events with Tower Hamlets Council. As well as teaching her private students, aged between four and nine, to play and read music, she encourages them to compose, improvise, and create music for themselves. They make quick progress, and will testify to her positive, fresh, creative and highly visual approach to teaching. Ellie is pratical, creative, energetic, motivated, resilient, and most importantly, a person who thrives on communication and her sense of humour. She has gained a diverse and adaptable approach to work through experiences in arts organisations, including the Royal Opera House and London Sinfonietta, and now wishes to to apply these to a classroom situation, ahead of undertaking a PGCE or TeachFirst programme next September. |

Laura Moses | Teaching Assistant , Support Staff |
| Laura had just graduated from the University of Birmingham (July 2011), and is now looking for experience as a teaching assistant, as place to begin for pursuing a career as a teacher or art therapist. She is extremely well suited to such a post given her work with Camp Beaumont, IPOP (as a support worker for children with special educational needs), and as a private French tutor. Each of these roles have allowed Laura to develop a myriad of skills, in terms of leadership, organization, team work, interpersonal skills, and where tutoring is concerned the ability to keep up with and follow the curriculum. All of these are essential when working in a school setting. To cite an example: whilst working at Camp Beaumont Laura was not only was part of a large team, but as a head group leader was in charge of a team of leaders. This position meant she had to adopt two roles at the same time: being a member of a team, whilst also being in charge of, and responsible for staff. Finally, Laura feels that in her tutoring and caring roles she is constantly aware of the need to be punctual and well prepared, while also knowning that one must not relentlessly adhere to previous plans and ideals of how something should be, and if somehting is not working it is her responsibility to address this and make it accessible and engaging for the young person/people in question. Laura feels this skill is invaluable in all areas of work, as it means she is always taking the initiative and is flexible and understanding of different methods of working and interacting with others. |
